We all know Backups are important.
You can probably imagine the pain of losing your businesses data – or losing access to all of your IT systems for an extended time period.
Corruption, malicious damage by threat actors or disgruntled staff, theft, physical damage including fire or flood, or just plain accidental deletion or modification may all result in the need to restore a backup and even the need to replace the equipment the data lives on.
Backups should always include an offsite backup copy, ideally encrypted (especially where it isn’t in the possession of a trusted person associated with the business), and as new as can be tolerated and successfully created on a routine basis.
A Disaster Recovery environment should be in place wherever it isn’t tolerable to be offline for a period of days or weeks. This provides a separate set of servers and resources required to ‘run’ your IT workloads while your equipment is offline and being restored/replaced.
